Editors’ Choice Awards Given at the HX 2018
The hospitality industry’s best new products and services in five different categories were named at the 23rd annual Editors’ Choice awards at this year’s HX. The winners were: Amenity Services Inc., CIRQ+, Ripples, ShuttleQ.com Transportation & Parking System, and Vulcan. The Kenneth F. Hine Best of Show Award spotlighted the top new product and that honor went to CIRQ+.
Entries were judged by editors of hospitality trade magazines, and awards were presented to the winners on Sunday, Nov.11, at HX Onstage Tech. The judges were Glenn Hasek, Green Lodging News; Stefani O’Connor, Hotel Management; Michael Scinto, Total Food Service; and Gregg Wallis, Hotel Business.
All HX exhibitors were invited to enter a new product – introduced to the market since November 2017 – for the 2018 Editors’ Choice Awards.
These honors were presented in the following categories: Hotel Products, Technology, Hotel Food & Beverage, Foodservice Equipment & Supplies, and Guest Amenities & Services.
CIRQ+ won in the Hotel Products category, in addition to Best of Show. CIRQ+ is a modular platform that includes energy controls for properties to remotely monitor energy usage and adjust room temperatures, lighting, and outlets based on guest occupancy. This device can save a hotelier anywhere from 20-50 percent on energy costs, and can detect when a guest is in the room, said Yani Deros, chief executive officer and co-founder. The CIRQ+ units are now in two properties in Arizona, and the company is in negotiations to possibly have them in as many as 50,000 rooms, he added.
“Winning this honor is a testament to the fact that there is a need for a solution like this in the hotel industry,” Deros said.
The winner in the Guest Amenities & Services category was Amenity Services Inc. This company’s product is compostable in-room coffee packaging that is BPI-certified packaging for in-room coffee.
Ripples was the winner in the Hotel Food & Beverage category, with its Ripple Maker product. This is a Wi-Fi enabled countertop device that prints images on top of a variety of foam-topped drinks.
ShuttleQ.com Transportation & Parking System took the honors in the Technology arena. Its ShuttleQ.com cloud-based software allows managers, drivers, and hotel front desk personnel to communicate, track, and handle all hotel guest transportation aspects. This software that helps manage hotels’ shuttle services is in close to 100 properties, said Izzy Fintz, vice president of sales.
“This helps reduce costs and allows hotels to better manage their shuttle services,” Fintz said. “Hotels can now know when they need to have shuttle services available for guests, rather than just have them on call all the time – which is not as efficient.”
And, the winner in the final category of Foodservice Equipment & Supplies was Vulcan, which manufactures the Versatile Chef Station. This product is a single, compact and flexible cooking station in which you can perform an variety of cooking techniques. This VCS can be used as a griddle, fry pan, saucepan, stock pot, and more.
